Origins
In 1917, 15-year-old Ray Kroc lied about his age to join the
Red Cross as an ambulance driver, but the war ended before he completed his
training. He then worked as a piano player, a paper cup salesman and a
Multimixer salesman.
In 1954, he visited a restaurant in San Bernardino,
California that had purchased several Multimixers. There he found a small but
successful restaurant run by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald, and was stunned by
the effectiveness of their operation. They produced a limited menu,
concentrating on just a few items – burgers, fries and beverages – which
allowed them to focus on quality and quick service.
They were looking for a new agent and Kroc saw an opportunity.
In 1955, he founded McDonald’s System, Inc., a predecessor of the McDonald’s
Corporation, and six years later bought the exclusive rights to the McDonald’s
name. By 1958, McDonald’s had sold its 100 millionth hamburger.
The Roots of Quality
McDonald’s passion for quality meant that every single
ingredient was tested, tasted and perfected to fit the operating system. Kroc
shared his vision of McDonald’s future, selling his early suppliers on future
volumes. They believed in him and the restaurant boomed.
Again, Ray Kroc was looking for a partnership, and he
managed to create the most integrated, efficient and innovative supply system
in the food service industry. These supplier relationships have flourished over
the decades. In fact, many McDonald’s suppliers operating today first started
business with a handshake from Ray Kroc.
The Legend Lives On
Right up until he died on January 14, 1984, Ray Kroc never
stopped working for McDonald’s. His legacy continues to this day as the system
provides McDonald’s customers with great tasting, affordable food; crew and
franchisees with opportunities for growth; and suppliers with a shared
commitment to provide the highest quality ingredients and products.
From his passion for innovation and efficiency, to his
relentless pursuit of quality, to his many charitable contributions, Ray Kroc’s
legacy continues to be an inspirational and integral part of McDonald’s – today
and into the future.

Rolling out digital
In addition to McPick 2 promotions, targeted digital deals helped
attract bargain shoppers. By the end of 2017, all US McDonald’s will offer
mobile order-and-pay, which executives believe will continue to attract
customers and boost sales.
Revamping restaurants
13% of McDonald’s US locations have been remodeled for the
chain’s “experience of tomorrow” layout, which includes ordering kiosks and
optional table service.
“We are continuing to make improvements inside our
restaurants to make the customer experience more personal and less stressful,”
Easterbrook said.
By the end of the year, 5,000 of McDonald’s US locations
will offer delivery, thanks to a partnership with UberEATS. According to
executives, delivery has helped attract new customers in younger, more urban
regions.
“I truly believe you’re only just beginning to scratch the
surface on this opportunity,” Kempczinski said.

McDonald's Corp. has helped revolutionize the way
restaurants use technology, dating back to founder Ray Kroc's fascination with
serving burgers and fries in a matter of minutes. Throughout the years, their
fascination with advancing their company technology wise has become a great
obsession for the the IT department. In the 1970's, due to there outstanding
lead and large burger chains which lead the industry they were able to move
from cash registers and completely install computerized points-of-sale (POS).
This particular sector of there technology has greatly advanced to even the
present times when there POS are all touch screen, in some restaurants, are
also self serving devices.
The most recent development has been installing WI-FI
hotspots in most of there restaurant globally. This model is made to introduce
more young and tech-people into the restaurants creating some what of a Starbucks
feel, which by the way is free. The electronic payment model is made to quicken
the ordering and payment of food, putting in a system that shortens the
processing time, preparation time and payment.
Did you know, Mcdonald’s uses a 100% biodiesel Technology.
Doing this has helped reduce carbon emissions with the truck making the
deliveries. To make this processes a reality, Keystone Foods who supply
Mcdonald’s with there meat worked very carefully with a fuel manufacturer in
the UK, which they came up with the idea of using biodiesel to reduce there CO2
emissions per year. The B100 (the biodesel fuel used) has been adapted to make
this possible.
McDonald's uses Nintendo DS system as a e-learning training
tool for their new recruit staff in over 3,000 of their restaurants. These
gaming systems train the recruits and grade them on their performance, in which
they can compare with other colleagues and view their progress. This new usage
of technology allow McDonald's to use less paper and have their employees enjoy
their on the job learning experience.
